Setting up SpyBot
Run Spybot whenever you suspect you've been infected with Spyware. Frequent
web surfers may want to run it on a regular weekly basis.
1. Open the SpyBot program.
Go to Start - Programs - Spybot Search & Destroy - Spybot Search & Destroy
2. On the left side of the window, click on the Update icon.
A. Click on Search for updates.
- If you get a window that says "No newer updates available", click OK.
B. Next to the "Search for updates" button, it should say "Spybot.Us by Rootboxen.net
(USA).

Running SpyBot
1. Make sure the SpyBot easy-mode program is open.
Go to Start - Programs - Spybot Search & Destroy - Spybot Search & Destroy

2. If you haven't checked for updates, click "Search for Updates" and download
any new files.
3. When updates finish, click "Search & Destroy" on the left.

▪ Click "Check for problems" near the bottom and let the program
run.
▪ When finished running, click on "Fix selected problems". You
can select/deselect various items found by right clicking in the window or
clicking on the object. SpyBot may find programs that you do not consider spyware
(such as WildTangent, an online gaming component) though you should understand
that these programs are most likely reporting on something to be considered "Spyware".
▪ A window will come up to confirm deletions, click Yes.
- The software may request that you reboot the computer. Reboot at the earliest
convenience and allow SpyBot to run again if it needs to.
You can exit the program. In the event that not all programs could be removed,
Spybot may ask if it can run on a restart. This is highly recommended. Make
note of which programs Spybot was unable to delete and confirm that they get
deleted/fix after the reboot. In fact, I suggest you do a shutdown and then
start back up instead of a Restart just in case something stays in memory.
There are also programs that Spyware is unable to stop and delete. In this
situation, please also try Ad-Aware as it as a somewhat different approach
and can sometimes catch and remove things that SpyBot is unable to (and vice-versa).
Additional Features
There is an additional section called "Immunize" that you can run that will
add some blocking features for known spyware. This can be enabled by going
to the Immunize window and selecting "Immunize".

The browser helper at the bottom of this screen can be set to "Block all bad
pages silently" which may give you some additional protection from IE hacks.
