Installing SAS Version 9.1
- Get the License Configuration File
- Go to http://webstore.cites.uiuc.edu
- Purchase an annual license from the CITES Webstore
- Download the .txt file indicated to a known location such as your desktop. (You will need to browse to it later in the installation in Step 4 below.)
For more information on purchasing SAS, go to http://webstore.cites.uiuc.edu
Note: SAS 9.1.x uses a text file form of license file -- it is neither a .sas nor a .sss file.
- Remove older versions of SAS
Version 9.1.3 will upgrade earlier versions of 9.1 but you must remove SAS 9.0 with Add/Remove Software to install 9.1 (though earlier versions such as 8.2 can be left on if you really desire). SAS/ODBC and SAS Viewer should also be replaced if you use these products and the new versions installed (see Client Side Components Disk 1). To remove SAS: Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel. In the Control Panel, click on Add/Remove programs. Then click on all the relevant SAS software and tell it to remove it.
- Put in SAS Setup Disk 1
- The Setup window should should automatically come up unless you have disabled the autoplay feature in which case you should open the cd and choose Autoplay.
- It will ask you to choose the language. Select English and click OK.
- The SAS Software Navigator will start up and is a web style installation program. If the screen below doesn't show up, select SAS 9.1 Foundation and scroll down to this window:
- Select "Verify System Requirements" and accept the defaults, rebooting if requested.
Note: If rebooting freezes the machine, power down and then if the program does not restart, open the cd and run "setup.exe". You can allow SAS to use your password or not (if not, you will have to do the logon on reboot yourself). The install program should start back up on it's own, if not, go to the cd and choose "setup.exe" and run it.
- Return to the SAS 9.1 Foundation Screen as above
- Select 3 on the right side to Install SAS 9.1 Foundation.
- Select Next at the welcome screen
- At the Installation Data Screen choose File and click Next

- When prompted, browse to the location of the license file (2005goldw913.txt is the 2005 license file), select the file, and choose Open and then Next. The license file will be processed and then you will be at another window where you select the language desired:

- Click Next and you should see:

- Choose Next to use the default location for files, otherwise, browse to where you want the files placed. Similarly,
- click Next at the "specify data files folder" window
- click Next at the "specifiy temporary files folder" window
You should get to this screen or similar, choose only SAS 9.1 and Academic Premier as described below:

- At the "Select Components" window:
- Place a checkmark next to "SAS System" so it selects everything under that folder.
- Click on the plus sign next to SAS System to expand
- Uncheck boxes for software not needed so it looks like this - scroll down the whole choice (see below):

Scroll down and
- Uncheck SAS/ACCESS Interface to DB2

The Mid-Tier components are also web server applications for web viewing of charts, graphs, power and sample size calculations, and reports generation and viewing.
The Client Side Components CDs include such things as the SAS Viewer and the ODBC client software. If you need to install the SAS Viewer or ODBC, insert the SAS Client Side Components Disk 1 and follow the prompts.
